Fèis Fhoirt began in 2009 with our first weekend Fèis held at Camelon Education Centre. To our surprise, we had over 100 participants and realised that what we had to offer was in big demand! Since then, we have run two weekend festivals a year, one in Camelon every September and one in Stirling every March.
Before each Fèis, we always visit local primary schools. We perform a musical presentation and tell them about what we do. We aim to raise awareness of Gaelic and traditional music opportunities available to children in the area.
As a result of our successful weekend festivals, we run classes on Saturday mornings for those who would like to continue what they started at the Fèis.
In Summer 2013 we run our second Fèis Fhoirt Ceilidh Trail. This is a project which allows our older, more advanced participants to form a band and tour the local area, performing within the community and gaining summer employment and musical experience. The Ceilidh Trail is a project which has proved very successful in other areas and we are very excited to bring it to our area. We ran a successful pilot project in 2011 and our first full ceilidh trail in Summer 2012.
We try our best to support many Gaelic initiatives throughout the community and many of our young musicians perform in the local community. This includes Gaelic after school clubs at both Kinnaird Primary School and McLaren High School.
In Autumn 2012 we ran our first adult Fèis in Callander. This was a great weekend where adult musicians could come along and play with like minded people in a relaxed atmosphere. Parents have been requesting this for a long time!
